Four Winds is located in the McMinnville Coast Range. Soils are classified as Jory and Nekiah. These soils are typically uplifted marine sedimentary loams and silts, with alluvial overlays. As compared to other appellations in the Willamette Valley, these soils are uniquely shallow for wine growing with low total available moisture. The resulting wines have pronounced leanness and mineral tones.

We bring this up a lot lately but when you get another warm vintage in 2016 (3rd in a row) we keep getting reminded how awesome it is to have Four Winds! Our high elevation, old vine, own-rooted Chardonnay didn’t flinch again and it never gets old having rocking Chardonnay. Site and material are everything here as our 2016 displays the moonbeam edges of freshness, plenty of mineral and citrus on the nose, and a palate that is sincere in its vintage expression while having its own taut plans on the side to keep things exciting. Graceful, youthful, clear and precise…enough Chardonnay character to love up on…without an ounce too much. This is what we like, what we strive for. We keep waiting for Four Winds to drop the ball let the warm vintages like 2016 run the show…but it can’t! This wine always excels and we just have to accept it.
